Prostate Artery
Embolization

Prostate artery embolization (PAE) is a minimally invasive endovascular treatment option for men with lower urinary tract symptoms resulting from Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH). The treatment is performed on patients whose symptoms are poorly controlled by medical therapy and on patients who are unable to tolerate medical therapy. PAE provides patients with an alternative to transurethral and open surgical procedures.

The treatment advantages of PAE are quicker recovery time, no risk of retrograde ejaculation, and no adverse effect on sexual function (improved sexual function in some patients). Patients can expect to have significant improvement in symptoms one month after the treatment. PAE can be done for patients who have had prior prostate surgery, patients who have large prostate glands (which may limit may minimally invasive surgical options) and patients who are dependent on Foley catheters.
