Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UAE)
Women with uterine fibroids, also known as uterine leiomyomas, can have many symptoms. These may include very heavy and prolonged bleeding with menstrual periods, increased cramping, painful intercourse, frequent urination and bladder urgency, a sensation of pelvic fullness, and other symptoms. These symptoms can cause significantly discomfort, inconvenience, and can interfere with a woman's lifestyle. Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is a safe and effective treatment for women with significant symptoms who are interested in a treatment alternative to traditional surgery or hysterectomy.
Because the procedure is minimally invasive and is done through a tiny incision, the vast majority of women do not require general anesthesia. Our patients are very comfortable and well sedated for the procedure using a technique known as moderate sedation which does not require placement of a breathing tube. Typically, patients go home the next day after treatment. There are no large incisions to heal. Recovery is therefore faster allowing women to get back to their lives faster.
If you are interested in meeting with one of our physicians to discuss if this procedure is right for you, please call our office to schedule an appointment.
